SmartThings network connection error; iOS app keeps disconnecting

SmartThings is an app/service that functions as a hub for controlling all compatible smart/IoT devices in the user’s home. In this way, a home automation system can be set up.

However, over the past few weeks, some users have been facing annoying login and sign-in issues that prevent the app from working properly, especially on iOS devices.

According to several reports, SmartThings users are suffering from a network connection that fails to connect IoT devices.

In addition to the above, SmartThings users on iOS report that the app constantly forces them to log in.

One of the reported issues is that many SmartThings users receive a “A network or server error has occurred” message when trying to set up other IoT devices on the home network (1, 2, 3 , 4).

SmartThings iOS app keeps disconnecting

The other reported issue mainly affects iOS users. The SmartThings app would constantly ask them to log in, as if they had never done so (1, 2).

ST logs me out daily on my phone, my wife’s, and our Skill with Alexa.

I’ve tried uninstalling/reinstalling, but as mentioned, that’s not the only device this is happening on. I also have to connect to the Alexa skill all the time to get voice control back from ST. It’s been like this for a few weeks now. About to make the change HA. I’m so sick of this shit. Thank god I never enabled 2FA.

However, having said the above, the issue might have been resolved after a recent update. It should be noted that this has not yet been officially confirmed.

SmartThings claims to have fixed the connection problem

Not sure if this affects Android users, but for us on iOS it was a pain. Seems like every day I would have to log back into the app. Messaged support and they said it was fixed. If you are still having issues, can you please write them down so they know it is still happening.

At this time, there doesn’t appear to be any official public acknowledgment from the developers. Thus, affected users can only wait for updates related to both issues.
